Burnsville NC Hiking
The
Burnsville area provides North Carolina hiking at its
best. Mount Mitchell State Park features the highest
peak east of the Mississippi River, and the many trails
all offer equally jaw-dropping vistas and connect to
even more of the best hikes in North Carolina. One of
the highest rated hikes in the state, the Black Mountain
Crest Trail, reaches summits of over 6,000 feet, with
views tumbling down more than 4,000 feet into valleys
below. The ridge offers clear, awe-inspiring views of
state parks, Mount Mitchell and the jagged peaks of the
Black Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Overnight backpacks or day hikes are both equally
thrilling journeys through these trails. Another area
treasure, now part of the Mount Pisgah Recreation area,
was built by the Vanderbilts, the same family that once
owned the Biltmore House in Asheville, and rises to
heights of over 5,000 feet about the National Forest to
offer astounding views of the countryside.
